Karunagruha - Our Adoption Centre

A Home of Compassion
Karunagruha was established in 1963 with a simple yet profound purpose: to provide care and dignity to children in need. It was built to be a home where children could grow up with safety and hope.

Children at the Heart
For forty years, Karunagruha worked with hundreds of rural children, many of whom were affected by polio, providing them with shelter, food, education, and medical care. Today, it continues to care for abandoned children between 1 day and 6 years, providing them with warmth and security.

Evolving with Time
As polio cases declined with the implementation of eradication programs, Karunagruha adapted its work. From 2009, it became an adoption placement centre, taking in children through the State Child Welfare Committee and guiding them towards stable, loving homes.

A Path to Family
Every child at Karunagruha receives care and protection while legal processes for adoption are completed. This careful, patient work ensures that each child finds a family where they can belong and thrive.

Rooted in Melukote
Karunagruha, a part of the Janapada Trust in Melukote, remains a nurturing space, grounded in community and compassion, as it continues its quiet, yet necessary, work of building futures for children who need a home.

Care Beyond Duty
The gentle, patient work of caring for children would not be possible without the dedication of those who stand by them each day. At Karunagruha, it is Jayalakshmi and Anusuya who carry this responsibility with quiet strength. They are the first to greet each child with warmth, the ones who comfort them through restless nights, and the steady hands that guide them through each small step. Their care is not just a task but a promise of love and safety for every child who comes into this home.
